Creating a Google Business Profile
Create a free Google Business Profile so customers can find your business on Google Search and Maps. Keep the profile in your own Google Account, then invite anyone helping with your website or marketing as a Manager.
Before you start
- Use a Google Account you control. You can create one with an existing email address; it does not have to be a Gmail address.
- Have your business name, category, address or service area, hours, phone number, and website address ready. Google asks for the details relevant to your business.
- Check Google's eligibility rules. A business generally needs in-person customer contact; an online-only business is not eligible.
- Search for your business in Google Maps first. If a profile already exists, claim it instead of creating a duplicate.
Create or claim your profile
If your business is not listed:
- Sign in to your Google Account and go to business.google.com/add.
- Select Add your business to Google.
- Enter your business details as Google prompts you. Check the business name, category, address or service area, and contact details before continuing.
- Choose one of the verification methods Google offers and follow the on-screen instructions.
If your business is listed but unverified: Open Google Maps on a computer, search for its name and city, and select the correct listing. Select Claim this business → Manage now, then follow the verification steps. See Google's instructions for adding or claiming a profile.
If someone else already manages a verified listing: Do not make another profile. Request ownership from the current owner. If you know the owner, you can instead ask them to invite you. Google has a different ownership-request process for service-area businesses without a physical shop or office; follow the instructions on that page.
Complete verification
Google chooses which methods are available for your business. You might see phone, text, email, video, or postcard verification; you cannot choose a method Google does not offer. Open your profile and select Get verified if Google has not already prompted you, then complete the offered steps yourself. Never share a verification code, even with someone who will manage the profile later.
After you complete the steps, Google's review can take up to five business days, sometimes longer. Google emails you when the profile is verified. See Google's verification guide if verification fails or you need to try again.
Add a collaborator as a manager
Once the profile is verified, the owner can invite someone else. Ask the person for the email address associated with their own Google Account; do not share your login.
- Go to your Business Profile while signed in as an owner.
- Select More (the menu icon) → Business Profile settings → People and access.
- Select Add in the top left and enter the person's email address.
- Under Access, select Manager, then select Invite.
- Ask the person to accept the invitation. You can check pending invitations under People and access.
A Manager can update business information, manage posts, and respond to reviews, but cannot add or remove people or remove the profile. Choose Owner only if the person needs those additional controls.
An invitee can accept right away, although Google restricts some administrative actions for new owners and managers for their first seven days. See Google's owner and manager permissions.
If you do not see People and access or cannot invite anyone, check that you are signed in with an owner account rather than a manager account and that the profile has been verified.
